It’s Halloween time! Fall activities, haunted houses, costumes, corn mazes, parties, and of course, trick or treating. But there’s one other vital reason to celebrate this month for our patients. It’s National Orthodontic Health month! We want you have a fantastic Halloween that is also safe for your braces, so here are our tips.
There are a few kinds of candies that can really harm your braces. We want your candy eating to be enjoyable and safe, so you should avoid candies such as hard candy, or candy that’s sticky, gummy or chewy. That will help keep your braces safe.
The great thing is that there are plenty of candies you can enjoy. Any sort of soft candy is good, as long as it’s not sticky. Soft candy bars, bite-sized chocolates, peppermint patties, and peanut butter cups are all perfectly fine to eat.
One thing you should to remember that cavities are formed most often by long exposure to sugar, so the increased candy intake in October can dramatically increase your chances of getting one. Be extra vigilant in flossing and brushing your teeth and braces this month.
