Ideally, orthodontic assessments should start early. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children should be evaluated by an orthodontist by age seven. At this age, Dr. Deji Fashemo can detect any issues with the developing jaw and teeth. Most children begin orthodontic treatment between the ages of 9 and 14.
During your child’s orthodontic evaluation, Dr. Deji Fashemo will ask questions about your child’s past oral health. The mouth and teeth are checked for any signs of malocclusion (crooked teeth or a bad bite). X-rays and photos will be taken of your child’s face and teeth. If necessary, a model will be made of your child’s teeth.
Early detection of any orthodontic issues means that our orthodontist in Dallas and Allen, Texas, can begin treatment when it is most advantageous. Dr. Deji Fashemo will monitor the development of your child’s teeth and bite until the time is right to begin treatment.
Adult orthodontic treatment usually takes more time than early orthodontics. However, this does not mean that if you did not have orthodontic treatment as a child, it is too late. Adult orthodontics is becoming more and more common.
